The oldest known carpet to date is the one discovered in 1949 by archaeologist Rudenko in Altai, in the 5th kurgan of Pazyryk. This is where the name of the carpet comes from.
The Pazyryk carpet dates back to the 5th-4th centuries BC, its dimensions are 183x198 cm, the density of the fabric is 3600 knots/dm². The carpet is woven entirely of wool. Even in today's conditions, it is a very delicate fabric. The creation of the carpet and its belonging to any nation are still unclear, and give rise to many disagreements. It is only worth noting that it is woven with a double knot, which is typical of Armenian carpet weaving, and the red thread in the carpet is dyed with the "ordan karmir" dye from the Ararat Valley.
The carpet is now kept in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
